Porsche unveils stunning 918 Spyder plug in hybrid concept at Geneva


Putting aside all those views that there is no surprises left in Geneva, Porsche has shocked the world when unveiled its mid-engine 918 Spyder concept. The plug in hybrid concept car offers traditional rubber-burning performance without guzzling down.

Putting aside all those views that there is no surprises left in Geneva, Porsche has shocked the world when unveiled its mid-engine 918 Spyder concept. The plug in hybrid concept car offers traditional rubber-burning performance without guzzling down a whole lot of fuel.


This vehicle is powered with a V8 engine producing massive 500hp and a pair of electric motors powered by lithium-ion battery pack (for front and rear axle) that generates 218hp additional power. On the top of that, Porsche 918 Spyder has 7-speed Doppelkupplungsgetriebe PDK transmission, enabling it to race from 0-62mph in 3.32 seconds with top speed locked at 198 mph.



On the other, as Porsche says, spyder concept can achieve 78mpg and emit just 70 grams of CO2 per kilometer. This mid-engined two-seater flaunts different driving modes: E-Drive, Hybrid, Sport Hybrid and Race Hybrid. And herein the E-Drive mode lets 918 Spyder to run on pure electricity for 16 miles. Hybrid mode is for everyday around town driving. In Sport Hybrid mode both powertrains are used and the Race Hybrid mode means all systems are go for the lowest lap times possible.


Further, this car is equipped with a push to pass button that adds a bit of E-boost on the straights and regenerative braking is present and accounted for. Made from carbon fiber monocoque and with the extensive use of aluminum and titanium, the car weighs 3,285 lbs.
