We all have heard of motorcycle powered cars and motorcycles made of radial airplane engines, but there are rare occasions where we have heard of airplanes with motorcycle engines. Rarely have they been implicated, but here is an instance where the Vincent, sometimes in the World War II, tried to get the Govt. contract but failed to.
Vincent developed the Picador Drone engine supplying motors for the ML Aviation U120D target drone. The project was named ‘Picador project’ and the motor developed (Vincent Picador Drone Engine) need to pass the full power operation tests.
As a result, Vincent motor was upgraded with a better crankshaft Scintilla magneto, double speed oil pump and fuel injection for the purpose. As the project didn’t get Govt. approval, all of the re-engineered high performance parts then developed are now available and can be used in Vincent motorcycles.
