Vertical Take-Off and Landing (VTOL) feat isn’t something that we don’t know about or only helicopters are capable of doing. With the advancements in the war gadgets these days, VTOL in F-35B supersonic stealth jet is less surprising.
Nevertheless, F-35B has achieved its first hover in flight testing. F-35B jet may not be the first to do it, but it’s the world’s first supersonic jet to have VTOL capability.
The successful test was carried out by the British test pilot Graham Tomlinson at the Patuxent River naval base in Maryland and F-35B remained stationary 150 foot above the runway. The radical hover jet achieved another mark on the same day: making its first short-roll takeoff assisted by its vertical-thrust equipment
