The Latest “Fast and Furious” Movie Is Simply Titled “Furious 7″, Hype Video Released

Furious 7

After being pushed back a year in response to star Paul Walker's death, Universal Studios is beginning to roll out details on the seventh installment to the Fast and Furious series. Here's your first look at the poster for the movie, Furious 7, which hits theaters in April.

The movie, which will go by Fast & Furious 7 in the U.K. but drops the "Fast" here in the U.S., welcomes back most of the heavy hitters from the series' past. Vin Diesel, Dwayne Johnson, Michelle Rodriguez, Chris "Ludacris" Bridges, and Tyrese Gibson all have major roles, with stars including Jason Statham and Kurt Russell making their first appearances in the series.

Significantly, the movie also features Paul Walker in a starring role. After Walker's death in a violent car accident in November 2013, production was paused while the movie's creators figured out how to complete the film without him. They've done it, with a combination of body doubles (including Walker's two brothers), digital effects, and script tweaks that reportedly retire Walker's character gracefully.

The Fast and Furious series Facebook page has been rolling out new teasers in the lead up to the movie's release on April 3, 2015, including "The Road to Furious 7," a look back at the six movies that made this Universal's biggest franchise of all time, with $2.3 billion in worldwide box-office sales.

The Fast and Furious series may not be the crowning achievement of modern cinema, but since 2001 it's reliably cranked out genuinely enjoyable action movies. They're excellent summertime flicks—high-octane adrenaline gushers full of races, chases, and explosions. The early installments may chronicle an era of flamboyantly bad automotive taste that many of us have long outgrown, but the movies helped kindle automotive enthusiasm in an entire generation of young gearheads.

We'll leave our Roger Ebert pretensions behind but bring our automotive enthusiasm with us when Furious 7 debuts. If the film's predecessors in the series are any indication, it'll be a wild ride.
