Subaru once sold a real Forester STI in Japan, circa 2004. Since the tall wagon shared its bones with the Impreza, it was pretty much a plug-and-play proposition. The next STI-badged Forester came in 2010, but that car, the Forester tS (tuned by STI), sported some performance mods and a bushel of STI appearance baubles but not much else. That Forester tS was limited to just 300 units to stoke demand.

That's exactly the formula you should expect the 2015 Subaru Forester tS to follow: limited production, sold only in Japan, with a host of STI suspension and appearance mods. True to the tS formula, power will probably be unchanged from the highest-spec normal JDM Forester engine. This car was revealed as a "concept" in September.
Diehard JDM fans in the US will find a way to acquire the parts to make their Foresters look like the STI tS, but everyone else will shrug and go back to clamoring for a proper WRX or WRX STI hatchback.
