Vehicles Affected: Nearly 205,000 model-year 2007-08 Ford Edge crossovers and Lincoln MKX luxury crossovers manufactured between June 15, 2006, and Sept. 22, 2008, at Ford's Oakville Assembly Plant in Ontario, Canada, and registered in Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, West Virginia, Wisconsin and Washington, D.C.
The Problem: Rust under the reinforcement brackets where the fuel tank is mounted could cause a fuel odor, leak or check engine light, and increases the risk of a fire, according to The Detroit News. Ford said it is aware of one fire related to the condition, but no accidents or injuries have been reported.
The Fix: Ford will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the fuel tanks and repair or replace them for free. The automaker has not yet announced a notification schedule.
What Owners Should Do: Owners can call Ford at 866-436-7332 for more info.
