Ford is recalling 204,448 Edge and Lincoln MKX crossovers in North America for fuel-tank brackets that can rust and cause gas to leak, the automaker said.
The 2007–2008 Edge and MKX have reinforcement brackets that can cause a fuel odor, a fuel leak, or the check-engine light to illuminate if they corrode, Ford said. A total of 186,024 vehicles are affected in the U.S., and, as with other rust-related recalls, only those currently or previously registered in 21 "Salt Belt" states plus the District of Columbia are on the list. This includes Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, West Virginia, and Wisconsin.
A filing to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, which ordinarily contains more details about the problem, was not available. Dealers will repair or replace the fuel tank at an unspecified future date.

Since 2012, Ford has recalled nearly 438,000 cars in the U.S. for fuel leaks, including the 2012–2013 Edge with the 2.0-liter EcoBoost engine in January and again for just the 2012 model in September 2012. In June 2013, Ford recalled 390,000 cars in the U.S. for faulty fuel-tank delivery modules. A total of seven Ford and Lincoln models were included.
