The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety released its most recent crash test results for midsize luxury sedans and found that Infiniti's Q70 sedan scored well across the board in the moderate overlap front, side, roof strength and head restraint tests, which earned it the group's Top Safety Pick+ designation.

The safety organization also tested the BMW 5 Series and Lincoln MKS, which did not perform nearly as well, ranking at the bottom of seven cars tested in the class. The BMW garnered a marginal score in the small front overlap test, which replicates hitting another vehicle or object like a pole at 40 mph at an offset angle, not head-on.
BMW 5 Series
Lincoln MKS
The MKS earned the lowest poor rating in the small front overlap test but did earn the highest rating of good for the other four tests. The Lincoln score applies to 2009-15 model-year vehicles while the BMW score applies to 2011-15 model years.
Infiniti's top score applies to the 2014 and revamped 2015 Q70 models as well as the 2013 Infiniti M.
Interestingly, the IIHS did not test the Audi A6, Cadillac CTS or Lexus GS because those automakers are in the midst of altering those sedans for improved safety that could impact the test results.
The 2014 Acura RLX, 2015 Hyundai Genesis , 2014 Mercedes-Benz E-Class and 2014 Volvo S80 all earned Top Safety Pick+ ratings, which makes the subpar BMW and Lincoln scores stand out even more.
