On the heels of Volvo announcing a Cross Country version of its new V60 compact wagon, the automaker said it plans to give the same treatment to its midsize sedan, the S60, calling it "the sole contender in the crossover sedan segment." The 2016 S60 Cross Country will make its debut on the Volvo stage next week at the 2015 North American International Auto Show in Detroit.

Like the V60 Cross Country, modifications to the new S60 model include an additional 2.5 inches of ground clearance compared to the regular version and a more rugged-looking appearance hinting at its increased off-road abilities. Visual cues distinguishing it include front and rear skid plates, side scuff plates and fender extenders.
In the U.S., it will be available with the regular sedan's powertrains, including the new turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder T5 unit and the new supercharged and turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder T6 engine; front- or all-wheel drive will be available.
Volvo says the car will be available for order by early summer; no word yet on pricing.
