2016 Tesla Model X Prototype Caught Silently Performance Testing in California [Video]

Here's video of the wicked-quick Tesla Model X being flogged

Tesla's long-promised, very often delayed Model X crossover just got a bit more real: Here's a somewhat-crappy video of what looks like a camouflaged Model X being flogged on a California pier.

Of course, we can't absolutely confirm that this is in fact the all-electric crossover that Elon Musk has been telling us about for years. But do the math: A somewhat taller, crossover-ish vehicle that's both wickedly quick and eerily silent, wrapped in camo, doing whisper-quiet loops around a former naval air station?

If it looks like a Model X, and sounds like a Model X, it's probably a Model X.

And from what we see here, the Tesla family truckster will likely offer similar performance to the electric carmaker's Model S sedan. That's not a surprise, given that the crossover is built on the Model S platform.

We know from previous reports that every Model X will come with dual-motor all-wheel drive, in the same three battery flavors (60 kWh, 85 kWh, or 85 kWh Performance) as the Model S sedan.

If you like what you see, act quick: Tesla says the entire first year's production run is sold out, with new orders being promised for delivery in early 2016.

Now if we could only see those wacky cool gullwing doors in action.
