Coupe and sedan versions of Honda's updated-for-2014 compact Civic just went on sale with a base price of $18,980 for LX versions of the coupe and $19,180 for LX sedans. The price jump for 2014 is modest: The 2013 coupe starts at $18,755 and the sedan at $18,955; all prices include a $790 destination fee.

Highlights include revised coupe styling, the available LaneWatch blind spot monitoring system, a new continuously variable transmission and available tech features like the Display Audio system and the next generation of the HondaLink app connectivity platform.

Both body styles still get power from the 140-horsepower, 1.8-liter four-cylinder. Coupe versions come in LX and EX trims with a five-speed manual or CVT; the CVT is standard on EX-L and EX-L Navi models. Sedans in LX trim use the five-speed manual or the CVT; EX, EX-L and EX-L Navi come standard with the CVT.

Honda says fuel economy has improved with the new transmission. City mileage is up by 2 mpg city and 1 mpg highway in Civic LX coupes and EX sedans, bringing the 2014's EPA ratings to 30/39/33 mpg city/highway/combined.
