Johnnie Walker Digitally Assembles F1 Car from Glass Tumblers, Smashes It to Discourage Drunk Driving

Johnnie Walker drunk-driving ad

Do you like Scotch whisky? How about Formula 1, classy drink glasses, and driving? As are many folks, we're fans of the whole lot—just not when mixed together. It seems spirits-maker Johnnie Walker agrees, and it released a clever YouTube ad to discourage drunk driving just in time for the inebriated party that is New Year's Eve.

As you can see in the video below, Walker uses a bunch of drinking glasses to assemble a full-size F1 car—virtually, of course, and with all the slopes and lines of the McLaren that the Scotch maker sponsors—all while a narrator explains the parallels in attentiveness required between racing in Formula 1 and driving home from the office. It's a point well made, given how even something as seemingly innocent as texting while driving can lead to dire consequences. In case there's any doubt left regarding the danger of phone fiddling or drinking and driving, we even put the two to a head-to-head stupidity test a few years ago. (Hint: Don't do either!) So go forth and have a good time New Year's Eve, just be sure to heed 1998 and 1999 world champion Mika Häkkinen's advice and find a way home that doesn't involve driving.
