Michael Schumacher Update: Seven-Time F1 World Champion’s Condition Still Critical Following Brain Surgery

Michael Schumacher

According to reports from SkySports and Autosport, seven-time F1 world champion driver Michael Schumacher is still "fighting for his life" following a spill on an unmarked skiing trail. The European news outlets attended a press conference thrown by the medical team attending to Schumacher to update the world on the driver's condition.

Yesterday's incident occurred at a French ski resort, and initially left Schumacher in a coma. Following an emergency brain surgery to remove several blood clots, it was discovered that the driver's brain also suffered numerous lesions, and the medical team is still working to reduce cranial pressure. Part of their efforts toward the latter include keeping Schumacher in a medically induced coma. Doctors have confirmed that the driver's helmet likely kept him alive thus far, (his head apparently hit a rock) but reiterated that he "is in a critical situation" and "fighting for his life." We'll bring you more updates as they become available.
