Infiniti Q50 Eau Rouge a Malleable Liquid-Metallic, Partial Formula 1 Car, According to Video

The melding of digitized fantasy worlds and reality shows no sign of abating, and automakers and their marketing departments are thrilled about it. Take for example the narration-free video from Infiniti promoting its forthcoming Q50 Eau Rouge concept, which discloses more in 30 seconds of digitally manipulated imagery than a few paragraphs of copy accompanied by a gigabyte of professional photography could ever hope to. Even those who have no interest in or understanding of Infiniti's involvement in Formula 1 would grasp the brand's message: the Q50 Eau Rouge concept will share DNA with an F1 car. How much, exactly, will only be known when the show car hits the stand in Detroit next month.

The video is quite engaging, even if its Q50-versus-F1-racer race into an electrical storm up the side of digitally created highlands—with both cars traversing mirror images of the racing line on Spa's famous Eau Rouge corner for which the show car is named—before exploding into drops of molten metal has little to do with anything. We expect more information, we suspect with subsequent words—on the Q50 Eau Rouge concept and just how closely involved Red Bull Racing is with the project—and photography will be available before the car is revealed on January 2.
