Inside the 2015 Cadillac Escalade: Less Truck, More Caddy

Cadillac is counting down the days until it launches the 2015 Escalade, and the American luxury manufacturer is leading us on with photos of the big SUV's new interior. As we reported a year ago, major changes will take place inside, with Cadillac keen to eschew the current Escalade's rather truck-like dashboard layout in favor of something more unique and luxurious.

Cadillac is placing significant emphasis on differentiating the Escalade's interior from those of corporate siblings, such as the Chevrolet Tahoe and the GMC Yukon, by drawing on the dash design of its stablemates. Where the 2015 Chevy and GMC layouts seem somewhat blocky, with center-stack knobs that look like bulging eyes, the Escalade's dash sweeps up and away from center, much as it does in the ATS, the CTS, and the XTS. The central display buttons of the Tahoe and Yukon are replaced with Cadillac's touch-screen CUE infotainment system—whether that's a good idea or not is open to debate, but at least it's aesthetically pleasing.

Owners of newer Cadillacs will have no problem recognizing the Escalade's steering wheel and its horizontally oriented switches. Ditto with the "cut-and-sew interior craftsmanship" that moves the new interior well ahead of the old design in terms of style and subtly—a healthy step away from the old Escalade's stamped-in-production look and finish.

Now all that's left to do is wait the remaining days until Cadillac shows us what's on the outside.
