The cosmic force of inevitability has proven itself once again. Come 2016, Cadillac will offer a three-row crossover that will slot into Cadillac's lineup between the SRX and the new Escalade. Two GM employees have confirmed to Car and Driver that the project has been green-lit and that development is in progress, finally resolving rumors that date back to the launch of three-row GMC, Saturn, and Chevy crossovers in 2007.
Unlike the first-generation, three-row Cadillac SRX pictured above, which borrowed its underpinnings from the sporty CTS sedan, the new Caddy is being engineered from the start on a dedicated crossover platform. Lambda II, as it is called within GM, is the second iteration of the Lambda platform currently used for the Acadia, Enclave, and Traverse. You can expect the usual generational improvements: less weight and more rigidity by way of high-strength steel or aluminum, probably more flexibility for size, and so on.

"YET ANOTHER ONE?!," you ask with the rage usually reserved for a dog that just peed on the living-room carpet. Yes, another car-based three-row crossover from a luxury brand. Someone's got to pay for ATS-V development, because the few hundred they sell a year sure ain't gonna cover it.
