Kia's flagship rear-drive sedan has been on sale in Korea for more than a year, but it's finally coming to the U.S. next year following a debut at next month's L.A. auto show. The journey from Korea has been a long one, but it's also been fraught with name changes: Dubbed K9 in Kia's homeland, the big sedan was to be called Quoris everywhere else. Now, Kia appears to have settled on a final name, K900, and, well, it's kind of odd.

Mostly it's odd because nothing else in Kia's U.S. lineup is called K-anything, and the alphanumeric randomness of K900 has us thinking the automaker could have applied a bit more imagination to its christening process. Regardless, expect full details on Kia's luxury competitor—which will be positioned above the front-drive Cadenza—closer to its full debut; for now, we can tell you that the Hyundai Genesis–based ride will arrive with V-6 and V-8 engines.
