The second iteration of Hyundai's ambitious, 5-series–fighting mid-size luxury sedan suggests that the Koreans have come a long way in the five years since it launched the Genesis. The first official renderings to come out of Seoul reveal a sharper, bolder Genesis that makes no reference to the generic styling of the car that came before it. The upright nose, the set-back cab, the sloping roofline, and the short decklid give the rear-drive sedan a striking presence and suggestive proportions.

Hyundai might be eager to show off the next Genesis—which debuts the brand's Fluidic Sculpture 2.0 design language—but the Korean automaker isn't telling us anything about the car's specs just yet. The renderings suggest a much longer hood, which is likely made possible by a longer wheelbase. We also know that Hyundai will bolster the Genesis's appeal in cold-weather states by adding the option of all-wheel drive. The second-generation Genesis, code-named DH, goes on sale in the United States in the spring of 2014.
