Fiddle Frequently and Often: Honda to Reveal Updated 2014 Civic Coupe [2013 SEMA Show]

2014 Honda Civic Si coupe

Honda's Civic just can't catch a break, and we're not talking about tough luck: The compact simply hasn't had a break or a rest in two years. Redesigned for 2012, the Civic coupe and sedan underwent a rapid refresh a year later that saw a rash of interior and mechanical changes—but only the four-door went under the knife and received external styling tweaks. Now, another year on, the Civic is getting another update, this time one that sees the coupe's bodywork get an injection of freshness.

Honda has released just a single photo of the 2014 Civic coupe—the rear three-quarter shot of the sporty Si variant embedded above—but more images and details should surface soon; the two-door is set to debut at this year's SEMA show in Las Vegas early next month. For now, let's quickly break down the differences between the latest Si coupe and the 2013 model that we gather from this single image. First, the taillights have redesigned internals, the bumper is chamfered and creased to match the Accord coupe's aggressive look, and there's now a giant rear wing like that on Civic Si sedan. (We really, really hope that wing is optional; the current Si coupe's lip spoiler is far sleeker.) Barely visible in the photo above is what appears to be an all-new front end: the front fenders now bulge around the wheels, and the headlights also have gotten a case of the bulges.

It's worth noting that before, the only major difference between the Civic coupe and sedan were each cars' respective rear-end treatments—subtle tweaks to the grille and front fascia aside. While we'll need to wait for the regular and Si coupes to be revealed at SEMA to confirm, the 2014 coupe's unique front end indicates Honda is looking to further differentiate the two Civics.
