Indoor Personal Mobility Robot to support senile, differently abled

It’s been long since we have had robots to help humans in their day to day life, particularly for senile and differently abled people. And this Japanese Indoor Personal Mobility Robot, which is a Robotic wheelchair, is certainly one good example of Robot makers’ move on developing machines for human help. It is developed by the University of Tokyo and is a prototype, which will, hopefully, be a real deal later on. For more information on how the Robotic wheelchair works, please see the video after the jump.

Indoor Personal Mobility Robot has wheelchair sensors, enabling it to know when someone is sitting in it. One can drive it around in your house by moving your upper body. Its sensors detects your body movements and move accordingly. For example, face your body forward and the robot will act accordingly. The best part is those who are not able to use their hands can even move around without any problem as moving your waist in the desired direction will signal chair where you want to move.
