Mercedes-Benz Confirms Coupe Version of New C-class, AMG Model Will Still Be Called C63 [2014 Detroit Auto Show]

2015 Mercedes-Benz C400

The brakes on the new C-class sedan aren't even cold yet—having just been, you know, driven onto the Detroit show floor—and already, execs at the automaker are discreetly talking about the inevitable variants to come. Here's what we've learned:

  • Mercedes will again offer a C-class coupe. Unlike the previous-gen C-class coupe, which arrived several years after the outgoing C-class sedan debuted, this one was planned from the beginning of the car's development. Hopefully this bodes well for the styling. It's not coming for at least a year after the sedan does, which means no new coupe until the fall of 2015 at the earliest.

  • The AMG version of the new C will retain the "63″ moniker. "It's too valuable" a nameplate to retire, we're told. Agreed. Expect a twin-turbocharged V-8.
  • Although a wagon version will, of course, be built, it won't be sold in the States. Of course.
