Vehicles Affected: About 3,837 model-year 2013-2014 Volkswagen Jetta Hybrid sedans manufactured between October 2012 and October 2013 equipped with a dual-clutch automated manual transmission.
The Problem: Due to gearbox fluid additives, internal components of the gearbox may corrode and the resulting deposits may cause an electrical short and result in a stall-like condition. Sudden loss of power while driving increases the risk of a crash.
The Fix: Volkswagen began notifying owners Dec. 6; dealers will replace the gearbox oil with a non-corrosive version for free.
What Owners Should Do: Owners can contact Volkswagen at 800-893-5298, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's vehicle-safety hotline at 888-327-4236 or go to www.safercar.gov for more info.
