Vehicles Affected: Approximately 55,000 model-year 2013-15 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport vehicles manufactured July 20, 2012, through July 23, 2014.
The Problem: In affected vehicles, the front passenger lap belt attachment fastener may not be torqued to specification and could loosen with time. A loosened fastener may not be able to withstand load forces in a vehicle crash, leaving the front passenger insufficiently restrained and increasing the risk of injury.
The Fix: Dealers will inspect and replace the lap belt attachment fastener free of charge.
What Owners Should Do: Mitsubishi began notifying owners earlier this month. For more info, owners can call Mitsubishi at 714-372-6000 and reference number SR-14-011. Owners also may call the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's hotline at 888-327-4236.
