Takata’s North American Unit Hires Angiolillo As New General Counsel

Bruce Angiolillo

Takata's North American unit has brought aboard attorney Bruce Angiolillo of New York-based Simpson Thatcher & Bartlett LLP as its new general counsel effective January 1.

Automotive News reports Angiolillo will be replacing Don Schiemann, who is retiring December 31, in overseeing "all North American legal and regulatory matters at the Company and work directly with Takata's senior management, external legal counsel and the Company's governing bodies," according to a press release by the supplier. Schiemann will continue working with Takata as an advisor.

Takada CEO and president Shigehisa Takada proclaimed his admiration for Angiolillo's corporate law expertise and the strong values the attorney shared with those of his company. Angiolillo added that he was "eager to help identify and pursue solutions that are in the best interests of the driving public and are fully aligned with our customers and regulators."

The supplier has been under the spotlight for a series of recalls concerning its airbags, which have been linked to a handful of injuries and fatalities due to catastrophic failure. Over 24 million vehicles from 12 different automakers have been recalled for said issues since 2008.
