Last week, it came to our attention that a car near and dear to our collective hearts, a 1977 Pontiac Trans Am, was up for auction. Not just any Trans Am, but a mint-condition Bandit-ized Trans Am that had been used to promote Smokey and the Bandit around the time of its release, then subsequently owned by the Bandit himself, Burt Reynolds.
Now the Julien's Auction of Burt Reynolds moviestuff in Las Vegas is history, and that T-topped, almost-kinda-famous piece of black-and-gold radness fetched nearly half a million bucks: Bidding closed at a whopping $480,000 before the auction company's cut. And the dude ain't even dead yet!
The weekend auction also included other Bandit-owned objects d'art, including western-themed art, shirts, chaps (!), saddles, a Bandit-themed golf cart (it sold for $13,750), a '97 Dodge Ram pickup with a portrait of Reynolds as the Bandit on the hood ($17,500), and even a motorized stagecoach built for Reynolds's wedding to Loni Anderson, for which an International Harvester Scout gave its life ($34,375). Who knew there was this much love for things in which Reynolds sweated?

Just as fascinating as the items themselves (which you can see listed here) are the staggering amounts each brought in, most far surpassing the auction house's estimates. Hopefully for Reynolds, the proceeds of the auction will help the 78-year-old actor win a longstanding foreclosure battle for his 12,500-square-foot Florida home, if, in fact, that is the reason Reynolds is "downsizing."
