Ford Performance: New Brand Unifies SVT, RS, and Ford Racing Under Single Banner, Will Launch 12 New Vehicles by 2020

ford-performance-logoFord Performance. Simple and to the point, the name leaves nothing up to interpretation. And from this moment forward, all of Ford's previously fragmented performance-focused efforts, including SVT, Team RS, and Ford Racing, will be unified under the newly created global entity.

Headed by Mustang chief engineer Dave Pericak, Ford Performance will serve as an "innovation laboratory and test bed to create unique performance vehicles, parts, accessories, and experiences for customers." Broadly speaking, if it involves "aerodynamics, light-weighting, electronics, powertrain performance, and fuel efficiency"—basically, a checklist of everything enthusiasts care about—it will be routed through Ford Performance at one point or another.

Ford says the cross-corporate harmony will be key in delivering more new vehicles and parts—and quickly. It also pledges to bring more than 12 new performance vehicles to the global market by 2020, including the next Ford Focus RS, which was confirmed today for American sales. We're hoping the formerly independent divisions approach each other with open arms.

When asked if the recent development meant future Ford Performance vehicles might arrive with additional nomenclature and badging as part of the package ("Ford Performance Ford Focus ST" doesn't exactly roll off the tongue), Ford told us the jury was still out.
