Set to different music and maybe narrated by Susan Sarandon, this video from Hennessey Performance Engineering of one of its modified Chevrolet Camaros could play like a fundraising commercial for needy third-world villages or puppy adoptions. Only for tires.
"Every five seconds, a pair of rear tires dies from gratuitous displays of horsepower . . . but the solution is simple: All you have to do is go online or pick up the phone right now. With your gift of just $20 per month—that's less than a dollar per day—Hennessey will donate a set of sticky, ultra-wide rear tires to a twin-turbo Camaro in need."
Instead, Hennessey's video avoids laying on the guilt and instead spoons on a nice helping of twin-turbocharged, 1000-hp small-block Chevy V-8 sound. The red Camaro shown is an HPE1000-kit-equipped customer car the firm tested at the drag strip, and it lays down a mighty 10.65-second quarter-mile time—at 135.38 mph. But seriously, folks, the future owner of this beast is gonna need a bunch of tires, like, stat.
