Want to picture Jaguar's XK successor a few years early? Take an XJ sedan, slice off the rear doors and attach the booty of an F-Type. That, according to Auto Express, is Jaguar's grand plan when this big coupe debuts with a six-figure base price.
Two weeks earlier, Jaguar announced it would discontinue the XK coupe and convertible after eight years. At that time, we learned Jaguar would lift the next XK into Bentley and Aston Martin territory and charge a lot more money, all to elevate it as a more luxurious, plush 2+2 than the younger, more agile F-Type.
Based on the British magazine's renderings of this newly dubbed XJ coupe, the general style makes sense as a budget Bentley or a warmer alternative to the Mercedes-Benz S-class coupe. The XJ, with its sloped aluminum body and sharp steering, already handles incredibly well for a big sedan. An XJ coupe would be an easy transition for designer Ian Callum, especially if he's allowed to retain the wheelbase of the standard XJ and draws an even more beautiful roof line.

Rumored engines include the same supercharged six- and eight-cylinder beasts found in the F-type, whose bones are expected to serve as the foundation for the XJ coupe. However, as this car likely won't show up until the XJ is redesigned, that could change.
