Nissan has announced that the third-generation Murano will make its debut on April 16 at the New York auto show. A murky, 10-second video previews a tiny snippet of the crossover's new styling, and clearly shows a boomerang-shaped headlamp and a character line that drops from the front fender into the doors before rising up toward the taillamps.
The clip also features what appears to be the first production incarnation of Nissan's new "floating roof" treatment, which it promises will spread across its product line in the future. Essentially, the new Murano appears to be a toned-down version of the Resonance concept from the 2013 Detroit show, and we're okay with that.
Nissan didn't get specific about features, powertrains, or anything else in its release, other than to say that, "Along with its innovative styling, the all-new 2015 Nissan Murano features a spacious, premium interior and advanced, purposeful safety and connective technology."
- First Drive: 2011 Nissan Murano CrossCabriolet
- Short Take Road Test: 2009 Nissan Murano SL AWD
- Instrumented Test: 2014 Nissan Rogue SL AWD
Thankfully, Nissan didn't mention a single word about a Murano with a convertible top. We have heard, however, that in addition to conventional gas powertrains, the Murano will get a hybrid option as well, likely soon after launch. Watch this space in about three weeks when Nissan shows us the full monty.
