In the run-up to the 2014 New York auto show, Ford is aiming big with its promotion of the 2015 Mustang, like, 1960s big. Some 50 years ago, the automaker unveiled the then-all-new Mustang to the world at, appropriately enough, the 1964 World's Fair in New York City; the next year, it promoted the Mustang convertible by putting it on top of the Empire State Building. Without a World's Fair handy, and after having already debuted the 2015 Mustang, Ford is planning to capture some buzz by replicating the Mustang-on-top-of-a-tall-building feat.

Just as it did in 1965, Ford will put a brand-new Mustang convertible on the Empire State Building's observation deck, where it can be viewed by passing helicopters and deck guests April 16 and 17. Also like in 1965, Ford will need to get creative when it comes to getting the Mustang onto the deck. It appears 50 years hasn't produced a new way of plopping a car onto a tall building's roof, because Ford will again chop its pony car into sections in order to schlep it up the Empire's elevators. Helicopters cannot get close enough to the building, thanks to its tall spire, and portable cranes can't reach its upper elevations, either.
