Hennessey Wraps Itself In the Flag, Introduces Venom GT “World’s Fastest Edition”

Hennessey Venom GT World's Fastest Edition

Hennessey's Venom GT is a very, very fast car. In fact, it could be the world's fastest car, after its 270.49-mph one-way blast down the space shuttle's home runway in Cape Canaveral last month. Of course, Guinness won't certify such a thing until it has done a two-way run to account for head- and tailwinds, which NASA allegedly wouldn't let them do, but Hennessey is crowing its Venom GT the world's fastest car anyway, even introducing a limited run of three "World's Fastest Edition" Venom GT coupes that are, literally and figuratively, wrapped in the flag.

The World's Fastest edition is essentially just a Venom GT with white paint featuring thin blue and red stripes running stem to stern; there are no changes to the aluminum structure, carbon-fiber body, or 1244-hp twin-turbo 7.0-liter V-8 to make it any faster than other Venom GTs.

To Hennessey's credit, the Venom GT does hold a Guinness World Record for standing-start acceleration, rocketing from rest to 186 mph (300 km/h) in just 13.63 seconds. But alas, "Venom GT World's Quickest Car to 186 mph Edition" doesn't have quite the same ring to it.

Apparently the lack of Guinness world record certification hasn't affected sales: all three are already sold, according to Hennessey at a scant $1.25 million each.
