Lexus to F Up Detroit Show with 2015 RC F Coupe [2014 Detroit Auto Show]

2015 Lexus RC F coupe

Lexus has revealed that its first new F model—that's a full F, not the F Sport trim level, which is offered on nearly every Lexus model—will debut at the 2014 Detroit auto show. Oh, and it'll be a coupe. Between the little coupe detail and the teaser photo Lexus released (pictured above), it's pretty obvious that this new F model is based on the recently unveiled RC coupe.

Currently, Lexus sells only one car in F guise—the IS F, based on the previous-generation IS sedan. That car will soon go away, and the (current) IS-based RC, essentially, will pick up its mantle. We figure it'll be called the RC F. For those not in the know, F is Lexus's performance sub-brand—à la BMW M, Mercedes-AMG, and Audi Quattro—which fired up around 2007. To date, only two cars have gotten the F treatment—the previous-generation IS sedan and the LFA supercar, so a new F is a big deal, although soon there will be more of the things. (We've spied prototypes of both the RC F and a new GS F model testing.) Lexus hasn't revealed any more details about the RC F, but you can bet more details will surface at the Detroit show next month.
