Ski-Oriented BMW X1 Coming to 2012 L.A. Auto Show

BMW X1 Powder Ride Edition

BMW announced today that it plans to sell a skier-oriented version of the BMW X1. The compact crossover, called the X1 Powder Ride Edition, will show up at dealers next month, and it will only be on sale through the winter. The Powder Ride Edition will make its debut at the 2012 Los Angeles Auto Show, along with two other BMW X1 concepts.

The BMW X1 Powder Ride Edition will feature unique equipment installed by ski manufacturer K2.

The model — which builds off the BMW X1 xDrive28 xLine or the xDrive35i xLine — includes a roof rack, rails and a BMW original roof box (it offers about 16 cubic feet of extra cargo room). In the cabin, there's aluminum trim, all-weather floormats and a fitted luggage compartment mat. The model comes with 18-inch alloy wheels and doorsill strips painted in a special matte sliver color. There's also a pronounced X-shaped decal wrap on the door, wheel arches and roof box; it's a polarizing look for sure. The Powder Ride Edition comes in seven exterior colors.

The big draw for the model is the special edition K2-manufactured ski and snowboarding bag and a pair of K2 LTD Power Ride skis.

No word yet on pricing. We'll have more information on the BMW X1 Powder Ride Edition at the 2012 L.A. Auto Show.
