Chevrolet Announces Sonic Dusk Concept Going into Production With Slight Changes [2012 SEMA Show]

This year, just as it did last year, Chevy is bringing a host of customized Sonics to the SEMA show in Las Vegas—but one Sonic in particular is making a return trip. The Sonic Dusk concept from Chevy's 2011 SEMA portfolio is back, and this time it's previewing a production Sonic trim level by the same name. In case you forgot what the Sonic Dusk was all about, allow us to fill you in: Basically it's a classed-up iteration of a Sonic sedan that combines luxury and sport touches to elevate the subcompact's game. The production version will cut nearly an identical path as the show car.

The production Dusk may be largely similar to last year's concept, but a few details have changed in the interim. Namely, the show car's Brembo brakes, lowered suspension, and flat-bottom steering-wheel have been binned. But the production car also features a few new touches, such as a two-tone Jet Black and Mojave Tan leather and suede interior and matte-finished door-handle inserts and rear license-plate trim. A ground-effects package—complete with the ever-important rear wing!—and nickel-finished 18-inch aluminum wheels carry over from the show car.

Pleasingly, Chevrolet also announced that the Sonic Dusk will come standard with the available 138-hp, turbocharged 1.4-liter four. Better still, both a six-speed manual and a six-speed automatic transmission will be offered. Unlike the upcoming Sonic RS hatchback, the Dusk won't get a sport suspension or unique gear ratios for the manual transmission or final-drive for the automatic. No specific timeline for when we can see the Dusk in showrooms has been offered yet, but GM says it is working to get the fancy Sonic to dealers as soon as it can.
