C/D: With one major detour—getting your doctorate in psychology and becoming a college professor—you have dedicated your life to racing. How did that start? DB: My father took me to a stock-car race when I was eight. It was love at first sight. It was like those stories where a guy meets a girl and knows immediately that they are destined to become a couple and spend the rest of their lives together, until death us do part.
