Recall Alert: 2005-2007 BMW 7 Series

2007-bmw-7
BMW is recalling 7,485 model-year 2005-2007 versions of the 7 Series sedan due to problems with the doors' latching mechanism, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

The affected vehicles are equipped with both the Comfort Access and Soft Close Automatic options and were manufactured from Aug. 23, 2004, through Sept. 3, 2007. You can check your vehicle's build date on a sticker on the driver-side doorjamb.

"Due to a software problem, the doors may appear to be closed and latched, but, in fact, may inadvertently open," NHTSA said in a statement. This could lead to the occupants being ejected from the car and injured.

BMW will notify owners starting in November, and dealers will update the software for free. Owners can call BMW at 800-525-7417 or NHTSA's vehicle safety hotline at 888-327-4236 for more info.
