Ford's Warriors in Pink Fights On

As October rolls in, many of us are bringing fall colors back into our wardrobes, but many more of us are rocking the color pink. October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, which means that whether you're a survivor or a warrior helping to fight for the health and survival or a friend, family member or coworker with breast cancer, it's the time to show your support. This month, pink shows up everywhere, from Monday Night Football to, yes, cars. Back in 1994, Ford started out as a national sponsor of Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. After attending a Komen Race for the Cure, some Ford employees commented that the race attendees were "like a pack of warriors, only warriors that hug and wear pink." In 2006, Ford started its own army with the introduction of the Warriors in Pink program. This program has raised more than $3 million in donations since 2006. Each year, Ford introduces new branded apparel and other products into the Warriors in Pink product line, featuring 12 tribal-inspired emblems embodying the hope, courage and strength. The line has products for men, women and children and is modeled by 11 real men and women fighting breast cancer, the "Models of Courage," and 100% of the program's net profits go directly to the research and eradication of breast cancer. In addition, buyers have the ability to choose exactly where their money goes. When you buy a Warriors in Pink article, you're asked to choose between supporting the Susan G. Komen foundation, the Young Survival Coalition, the Pink Fund or the Dr. Susan Love Research Foundation. I just placed my first order for a Circle of Hope scarf (for myself), and may very well be buying more items for my friends as the holiday season approaches. As a woman younger than 45, I chose to support the Young Survival Coalition with my purchase. To date, Ford has raised more than $115 million to support the cause.
