Ford Whips Up Ridiculously Awesome Focus ST Wagon Cop Car for U.K.

Ford Focus wagon cop car (Euro-spec)

The 2013 Ford Focus ST five-door quickly has become a favorite in the C/D offices—we very nearly fell in love with it after just one drive—but overseas, buyers have the option of an even-cooler ST wagon. Now, we didn't think a 252-hp, turbocharged compact wagon with a six-speed manual could get any better, until Ford dropped this bomb: It turned an ST wagon into a U.K. cop car. Adding a light bar to anything usually adds an instant dose of cool, but this police-spec Focus ST wagon received more than just a roof-mounted row of lights.

Starting with the ST's exterior, Ford's Special Vehicle Preparations team added full police livery and the aforementioned LED light bar. (We award the team some style points for the cutouts in the checkered body-side graphics that outline the ST's various fender creases and shoulder line that runs through the door handles.) Inside, the dashboard features a mobile data terminal (cop computer), as well as controls for the lights and siren. The cargo area is fitted with a heavy-duty rack system with what appears to be a lockable drawer. Ford says the ST wagon is outfitted for compact-traffic duty, and that it meets the U.K.'s National Policing Improvement Agency standards for fast-response vehicles.

As cool as a cop-ified ST wagon is in concept, we're pretty sure it's a less-fun proposition for U.K. motorists intent on outrunning the law. Ford claims the ST can run from 0–60 mph in just 6.5 seconds, so criminals hoping for a clean getaway probably wouldn't get one. Or they could be so distracted by the awesometude of the ST wagon chasing them down that they'll slip up. Either way, such criminal concerns will remain hypothetical for the time being—Ford's police-spec ST is just a one-off demonstrator. But it's an awesomely cool one-off demonstrator.
