Say what you will about the Lexus LF-NX concept's styling, but Lexus doesn't seem to have a problem with it. As if to prove this, the Japanese brand brought the brutally styled compact crossover to the Tokyo auto show in pretty much the same exact form it was shown in Frankfurt this year. But whereas in Frankfurt Lexus kept LF-NX's powertrain details vague, it let a little bit more slip in Tokyo, detailing the basics of the concept's engine.
The LF-NX previews an upcoming small crossover from Lexus, which we believe will get the "NX" name, as well as offer a choice of turbocharged four-cylinder and hybrid power sources. It will slot in beneath the RX350/RX450h in Lexus's lineup and take on stuff like the BMW X1 and Audi Q3. In Tokyo, Toyota's luxury brand outlined what to expect from the turbo four: It will displace 2.0 liters and utilize a twin-scroll turbocharger, an exhaust manifold integrated into the cylinder head, and Toyota's D-4S port- and direct fuel injection. Variable valve timing is part of the mix, as well, and the turbo will employ an active wastegate valve. No power figures were discussed, but we expect Lexus's first-ever turbocharged four-cylinder to put out somewhere in the realm of 225–250 horsepower, the industry par for sporty 2.0-liter turbo fours.

As we've previously reported based on Lexus trademark filings, look for the turbo NX to carry the NX200T badge, while the hybrid should utilize the NX300h moniker. Both cars should appear early next year in production form before going on sale as 2015 models.
