Volvo Bringing Hotted-Up Polestar S60 Sedan, V60 Wagon to U.S.

Swedophiles rejoice! Volvo has once again let the ruffians at Polestar have their way with some of the automaker's models, in this case the stylish and practical 2014 S60 sedan and V60 wagon. Good news to be sure, but we're even happier to report that the hot-to-trot Swedes will be making the trip stateside.

Known officially as the S60 Polestar and V60 Polestar, Volvo announced that the pair will be offered not only in the U.S., but Canada, Japan, Switzerland, the U.K., the Netherlands, and Sweden. More markets are to be announced in the near future.

Polestar has been diddling with Volvo products for almost 20 years now, and has a pretty good idea of what it takes to make a blue-blooded Swede get up and run. The treatment here begins with a new twin-scroll turbo and intercooler, which conspire to deliver 350 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of twist (available from 2800–4750 rpm) from the T6 six-cylinder engine. Although about a buck-fifty shy of the 508 horsepower produced by the six in the S60 Polestar Concept sedan from last year, Volvo claims it's still enough to coax a 4.9-second 0-to-62-mph time from the pair. The sprint to 124 mph is said to take 17.7 seconds. Exhaust gasses escape through a 2.5-inch stainless exhaust feeding into dual 3.5-inch outlets.

Polestar also gave the driveline a working over, calibrating the transmission for quicker shifts and adding a launch-control function, as well as tweaking the Haldex all-wheel-drive setup to deliver more torque to the rear. There's also a more sporty—read: more lenient—stability-control system. The fun can be halted via Polestar Brembo six-piston calipers pinching 14.6-inch ventilated and floating Brembo discs in front and 11.9-inch ventilated discs in the rear. Other mods include Polestar Öhlins dampers and bespoke Polestar 20-inch rims wearing 245/35 rubber. Polestar pegs the weight of the S60 at 3862 pounds; the V60 Wagon weighs in at a heavier 4017 pounds. The interior alterations are rightfully focused on increasing driver support and control, featuring a custom wheel and seats.

Neither Volvo or Polestar provided pricing details, but Volvo did promise us a crack at the dynamic duo just as soon as they arrive stateside. For those interested in a purchase, both the V60 Polestar and S60 Polestar will hit American showrooms in June of 2014.
