If Chevrolet SS Meets Sales Goals, Expect Manual Transmission, More Power

Chevrolet performance manager John Fitzpatrick, in remarks at the SEMA show in Las Vegas, said that if the rear wheel drive V8 powered Chevrolet SS meets or exceeds its modest sales goals of 2000-3000 units a year of the Australian built sedan, the company may consider offering more powerful engines and a manual transmission. GM sells Australian market versions of the car, branded as the Holden Commodore, with optional 455 and 580 horsepower engines.

"People say all the time, 'Why don't we have a six-speed manual? Why just one engine?'" Fitzpatrick said. The answer is that it depends on volume. Fitzpatrick said that Chevrolet would definitely be interested in at least looking into bringing over the six-speed stick shift and more powerful engines if the SS sells well.

Fitzpatrick also said that selling the $45,000 Chevrolet SS or an even more expensive higher performance edition would not cannibalize Buick or Cadillac sales. Comparing the SS to the new 2014 Cadillac CTS Vsport, Fitzpatrick insisted that. "They're completely different kinds of cars for completely different kinds of customers."
