I’m Perd Hapley, and the Story with the Updated 2016 RLX Is that It’s a 2016 RLX That’s Been Updated

2016 Acura RLX
The 2016 Acura RLX goes on sale March 3, superseding the now hopelessly outdated 2015 model. The price remains the same, but new features abound! Read on for the dirt, intrepid scholar!

Rumored for this year's model was some shockingly-new and high-tech tech. Terms bandied about? Meatplow Acceleration Demonstrator (MAD), Fungible Conviction Alert (FCA), Decelerative Hatpin Geometry (DHG), Terrapin Steak Tenderness Timer (TSTT), and Acura Hi-Hat Sizzle Assist (AHHSA, pronounced "ahhhh-SAHHH"). All are rumored to be under development in Honda's Abbreviation Lab, a semi-clandestine facility housed in an unassuming former sporting-goods store in Maumee, Ohio.

Due to Acura's unwillingness to raise prices—and the unfortunate reality that none of this tech actually exists—the above features failed to make the cut. But what you can get, depending on trim level, is an AcuraWatch system that includes the following: Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) with Low-Speed Follow (LSF), Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS), Forward Collision Warning (FCW), Lane-Departure Warning (LDW), Lane-Keeping Assist System (LKAS), Road-Departure Mitigation (RDM), Blind-Spot Information (BSI), Multi-View Rear Camera with Dynamic Guidelines, and Cross-Traffic Monitor.

If you spring for the Advance Package, a 360-degree camera aids sketchy parking maneuvers. Another camera manages Road-Departure Mitigation. In layman's terms, the RLX steers and brakes itself to keep you, the valued Acura customer, from driving off the road. And if you're backing out of a parking spot and fail to notice the galoot in the S-10 Xtreme barreling toward your rear quarter panel, the car will beep at you.

Underneath, Acura has also retuned the shocks and softened up the rear anti-roll bar to reduce NVH and improve ride and handling. Yes, fine. It's a dribs-and-drabs upgrade, but they are offering a new silver color. Everything else is as it was. At least it's still $49,370 to start?
