It's been a banner week for cheap mid-engined car news. First, McLaren finally unveils its 570S, the first of its econo-rockets, and now Mugen has announced a line of accessories for the rad little Honda S660. Admittedly, the 570S is cheap relative only to its 650S, 675LT, and P1 lineup mates, and the S660 is not yet available in the U.S., but we'll take all the middle-mounted internal combustion we can get.
--The Beat successor makes due with only a 660-cc engine, allowing the diminutive skateabout to reap the tax benefits of Japan's kei classification. Don't expect Mugen's line of extra bits to add a whole lot of zip to the 0.66-liter powerplant, however—the S660 accessories are largely cosmetic.
-The body kit, however, definitely gives the little machine a Nihonian street-hoon demeanor, and invariably increases the possibility that the wee sportster might transform into some manner of super-deformed mecha. Other pieces include shift knobs, gas caps, mufflers and exhaust tips, wheels, brake rotors, and a "sports mat." We like to assume that last item could be used for both yoga and breakdancing. Or perhaps some kind of tiny sumo. Or tiny-super-deformed-mecha sumo.

Expect Mugen's collection of carbon dress-up items to be hot items among the JDM-aping set if Honda does the right thing and brings over a version of the nuevo-Beat powered by a 1.0-liter turbo motor.
