Pink Noise Generator: VW Beetle Pink Color Edition Concept

BEETLE PINK FRONT Said to have been spurred into existence by the demand of consumers in the U.S. and China, the Volkswagen Beetle Pink Color Edition concept was presented at the 2015 New York auto show as a pink-hued shout-out in the halls of public opinion. If the crowd makes enough noise, VW hints that a limited-edition production run will follow.

While it'd be easy to simply bathe the Beetle in a shade of pink borrowed from the Sanrio playbook and call it a day, VW set the color wheel for a more complex shade and came up with a color featuring a bluish tint that owes as much to Prince as to Hello Kitty. Officially called Pink Metallic, the exterior finish is offset by gray door-mirror housings and side moldings, plus the front and rear bumpers are borrowed from the Beetle R-Line.

To keep the vibe alive inside, the upper door-trim panels, air-vent surrounds, and steering-wheel spokes get the same Pink Metallic finish as the exterior. There's also pink stitching on the steering wheel, shift lever, and floor mats. VW says the pink-o-meter could conceivably be cranked even higher if feedback from the concept car is positive.BEETLE PINK REAR

VW points out that the Beetle Pink concept, although displayed as a coupe, could easily be built as a convertible, which seems like the obvious play considering the effervescent personalities who often gravitate toward the color pink.

No mention is made regarding the powertrain of the Beetle Pink Color concept, so we'll go out on a limb and guess that if it does reach production, it'll be powered by VW's 1.8- or 2.0-liter turbocharged gasoline four-cylinder. Sure, they make a diesel Beetle, but there's a chance the urea solution might sour the sweet taste of this pinkberry smoothie.
