Michael Schumacher has finally gone home, 254 days after a tragic ski accident left him in a medically induced coma for nearly six months, according to a report in The New York Times. In June, he transferred to a rehabilitation facility in Lausanne, Switzerland, and now the Formula 1 champion has returned to his mansion at Gland on Lake Geneva on September 9.
While this appears to be a good sign in general, his rehabilitation process will require time and patience, it seems. "Considering the severe injuries he suffered, progress has been made in the last weeks and months," said a family statement quoted by the Times. "There is still, however, a long and difficult road ahead." In addition to thanking the hospital staff, the statement requested "that the privacy of Michael's family continue to be respected, and that speculation about his state of health is avoided."

Of course, there is plenty of speculation about Schumacher's health; not being in possession of a medical degree, we won't be adding to it. We will, however, join millions of Schumi fans in wishing him well and hoping to see him make a strong recovery.
