2014 Lotus Evora S
We have more from Lotus, with the British sports-car company giving us a response to our report that the company won't be producing a 2015 Evora for the States.
The bad news is that we were right: With the company's smart airbag exemption for the car expiring, there won't be a 2015 Evora in America. But the good news is that Lotus is planning to bring the Evora back to our shores in 2016.
"Lotus is committed to the North American market and we will indeed produce a 2016 Evora that will be fully U.S. compliant," reads the official statement. "We will not be producing a 2015-model-year Evora, therefore there will be limited availability of 2014 cars over the next few months."
Of course, this raises as many questions as it answers, with the big one being whether the 2016 Evora will merely be a federally compliant version of the current car or a substantially new model. Rumors that have reached us from a global dealer conference that the company recently held at its Hethel HQ—the first for 19 years—are that the car will be different enough to be pitched as a new Evora. We've also heard that other new models were discussed, something we should be able to tell you more about soon.
Lotus won't officially confirm how many 2014-spec Evoras are left in the States, so if you want one, then it might be an idea to hurry on down to your friendly neighborhood Lotus dealer. As we previously reported, track-only versions of the Elise and Exige will remain on sale.
"The really important thing for us is to say that we're not pulling out of the States by any stretch," a Lotus spokesman told us.

Lotus won't be at the Paris auto show next month, but we'll be seeing the new Evora in 2015 and it will go on sale towards the end of that year. We look forward to finding out more.
