Alfa Romeo to Launch 4C Model in America in June: Yes, this June

Alfa Romeo's U.S. Comeback Now Scheduled for June

From the believe-it-when-we-see-it files comes a bit more clarity around the long-awaited, often-delayed re-launch of Alfa Romeo in the U.S. According to a report in the Detroit News, Alfa sales will—er, should—commence this June, led by the gorgeous 4C sports car. This jives with our own reporting last month from the Detroit auto show that stated the 4C would lead the charge this spring, with other models, most likely an all-new Maserati Ghibli–based Giulia sedan and the all-new Spider roadster, to follow in calendar-year 2015.

As with the even more gorgeous, quarter-million-dollar 8C supercar, which took top billing in our Top 10 Most Beautiful Cars of 2009 roundup, the 4C will be sold through Maserati dealerships, though Fiat/Chrysler CEO Sergio Marchionne is quoted as saying that a handful of Fiat's best-performing dealers will be able to sell the car as well.

Consider it a soft re-launch plan. The pricey, minimalist 4C will be a low-volume seller, and hence, is something that Maserati dealers can easily take on. This allows Alfa's return to make news while the company bides its time to determine which of its other dealers will be allowed to sell Alfas when the mainstream cars arrive next year. Fiat dealers in particular seem keen on bringing Alfa back sooner than later, according to the report.

Given how close the re-launch date is, we're cautiously optimistic that it's actually going to happen. But we've been duped before—Alfa is now on its fourth triumphant return plan in a decade. And even if the 4C arrives on time, the other U.S.-bound cars had better get here soon—and they must be good—if Alfa plans to stay.
