Kia Adding Google Maps Integration to Next-Gen UVO Infotainment System

Kia UVO second generation

Kia has announced that the second generation of its UVO infotainment system will get Google Maps and search functionality, and the new UVO setup will debut on the 2014 Sorento. The new UVO setup will enable Kia customers to get directions and location info using Google Maps on their phone and send destination info to their car, as well as use Google Places to search locally. Currently, only Audi's MMI interface can boast Google Maps (actually, Google Earth) and Google Local Search integration.

Kia's free eServices app is required, and it is compatible with iPhone at launch, though Android devices will be able to play nice with UVO's eServices (which include vehicle diagnostics, parking minder, and the aforementioned Google POI search functionality) by mid-2013. After making its debut on the new Sorento, UVO is next headed for the 2014 Forte sedan.
