Lamborghini Unveils Latest and Final Gallardo GT3 Race Car

Lamborghini's Gallardo is a dead model walking, er, rolling—a new one is coming for 2014—but that doesn't mean the Italian automaker can't squeeze just a bit more juice from the current version. Last year, the company refreshed the Gallardo and subsequently released an updated LP570-4 Super Trofeo racing version. Now the Gallardo GT3 race car is being updated, as well, to both mimic the pedestrian 2013 Gallardo's fresh look and to improve its racing performance. Just like the Gallardo GT3 that came before it, the new GT3 FL2 was co-developed by Reiter Engineering and Lamborghini's motorsports arm. The duo fitted the Gallardo with a new aerodynamic body kit, beefed up the brakes to better handle endurance racing, and trimmed 55 pounds from its curb weight. Sounds good to us, but let's be real—this car's true appeal lies with its bad-ass, super-awesome looks. Plus, at €320,000 (that's $430,000 at current exchange rates), the Gallardo GT3 undercuts McLaren's MP4-12C GT3 car by nearly $100,000. So there's that.
