On eBay: A 1989 Nissan that Pegs the Weirdness Meter

Nissan Pao

-

These days it seems that the further something is from the norm, the cooler it is, and this 1989 Nissan Pao—for sale on eBay right now—is far, far outside the mainstream.

-

Let's take a look at why this might just be the ultimate counter-culture ride: As everyone knows, desirability is inversely proportional to availability, and the Pao was never sold in the United States, instantly elevating its street cred. This particular example made its way to the States after originally being imported into Canada, according to the seller, who further makes the reassuring claim that it's "100 percent totally legal."

Then there's the novelty of the thing. Just 50,000 were built between 1989 and 1991. Additionally, the Pao is known to get 50-70 mpg depending on how hard its little 1.0-liter is asked to work. Environmentally friendly? Check.

Because driving in Tokyo is notoriously a cluster, the car is only about 5 feet wide and has an extremely tight turning radius of just 14 feet. That means inner-city parking is a breeze. Urbanites rejoice!

Yes, the $12,995 asking price is a bit rich, but then again, this Nissan has only 18,000 miles on the clock. It's equipped with an automatic—so millennials can drive it—and A/C. It also has a nifty "picnic" radio that we're told "works perfectly inside OR outside the car." Picnics are so cool, as is this Nissan.
